The personification of the light cruiser USS Cleveland, and the eldest of the five Cleveland sisters. Cleveland was scrapped in the early 1960s. Like almost all of her sister ships, she was decommissioned shortly after the end of the war, and never saw active service again. She was the second ship to be named for the city of Cleveland, Ohio.Ĭleveland was commissioned in June 1942, and saw extensive service in the war, briefly in the Atlantic, and then in the Pacific theater.
USS Cleveland (CL-55) was the lead ship and one of the 27 United States Navy Cleveland-class light cruisers completed during or shortly after World War II. She saw very little naval combat against other ships. This is a reference to the fact that Cleveland spent the entire war as coastal support for ground troops on the islands in the Pacific. Her third idle secretary line mentions trees. She participated in many coastal engagements throughout the war and was a valuable asset to ground troops on the islands. Her self-introduction mentions the numerous battles she was a part of and the Battle Stars she has earned.
